For the adventurous traveller to Cape Town, there is a chance to enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to snorkel and swim with one of the ocean's friendliest creatures, the Cape Fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus).
Snorkelling is a wonderful way to observe beautiful underwater life without all the extensive training and complicated equipment required for scuba diving. Clients meet in Hout Bay and travel by boat to Duiker Island, where you can either snorkel and swim, or just stay on the boat, and just enjoy the close-up experience of seal watching.
All of the equipment is provided (wet suit, snorkel, flippers, goggles and so forth), and you get a short training/ safety briefing before going into the water (temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius).
A GoPro Camera for underwater use is also available for hire (and you get to keep the SD card).
The trip last about 2 and a half hours, and is well worth it for the Ocean enthusiast.
