Cape Town’s most famous hotel, the Mount Nelson, is a sanctuary set in 9 acres of pristine and tranquil gardens on the lower slopes of Table Mountain. The Hotel offers a combination of colonial elegance, grandeur, and a beautiful location.
The Mount Nelson Hotel boasts six individual wings, separated from the Main Hotel, each with its own unique character, private gardens and facilities. This arrangement provides guests with unparalleled privacy and seclusion, all with the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain, whilst still being able to enjoy the full amenities of the Hotel. Each of the 57 suites and 144 bedrooms are individually furnished and provided with fully appointed private bathrooms. The rooms and suites are equipped with individually controlled air-conditioning units, a mini bar fridge, luxurious cotton, linen and non-allergenic foam pillows, padded hangers, opening windows, writing desks, mood lighting, satellite television, AM/FM clock radios, video recorders, electronic safes, two line touch-dial telephones, data ports for high speed internet access and voicemail and international plugs. The luxurious bathrooms are furnished with toiletries, sewing kits, hairdryers, bathroom scales, shaver sockets and shaver mirrors. Special facilities such as inter-leading rooms, paraplegic facilities, view requests: a choice of the gardens, Table Mountain, the swimming pool, private courtyard and private balconies, are available on request. Fine dining has long been a tradition at the Mount Nelson Hotel. There is a diverse choice of venue, each distinctly unique. There is the Cape Colony restaurant, which combines fine dining with impeccable service amid an elegant interior, with live music each evening. The menu features contemporary South African food with an interesting Asian influence, while the wine list was recently awarded the Diners Club Award of Excellence. Overlooking the picturesque gardens and swimming pool, the Oasis Restaurant offers a simple and contemporary take on ‘al fresco’ dining, with daily menus incorporating the Cape’s best local and seasonal produce in a relaxed, stylish and tranquil setting. You should not miss the delights of Afternoon Tea – including, as it does, an exquisite selection of sandwiches, cheese and biscuits, scones (complete with cream and strawberry jam), and an exceptional assortment of tea cakes. A wide variety of teas including Rooibos (a local brew), Lapsang Souchong, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Orange & Cinnamon, Green tea & Mint, and Jasmine Green accompanies these taste sensations. Tea can be enjoyed in the lounge, out on the terrace or in the beautiful gardens.
Guests can also enjoy a cocktail in the new bar – The Planet, which provides the perfect setting for pre or post dinner drinks. For the more energetic, there are two all-weather hard tennis courts in the hotel grounds, and a choice of two heated swimming pools. You can also take advantage of the golf practice net on site, or enjoy a game at one of the nearby golf courses. Tone up in the hotel's gymnasium, or relax and enjoy the extensive beauty treatments in our body care centre and hair salon. The Librisa Spa offers unsurpassed pampering and luxury. The architecture of the Spa incorporates design features of the Victorian era creating a conservatory-like ambience of natural light, gentle tones of whites and creams and a soothing setting of potted flowering annuals, topiary and palms. There are 10 treatment rooms, steam rooms, saunas and plunge pools. The Mount Nelson also prides itself on being a place where families with children are well catered for. Here children can enjoy nine acres of secure gardens – the perfect environment to run free while parents unwind with peace of mind. The Hotel has a list of fun things to do, provides child-size bathrobes and slippers, offers children’s menus (including for in-room dining), and has special programmes during the festive seasons. The hotel offers two restaurants: the Cape Colony combines fine dining with live music each evening and the menu features contemporary Western and Asian fusion cuisine, while the wine list was recently awarded the Diners Club Award of Excellence. Overlooking the beautiful gardens and swimming pool, the Oasis offers the perfect venue for relaxed, health-focused alfresco dining. The hotel is also famous for its decadent Afternoon Tea served daily in the elegant lounge, while champagne and cocktails are sipped by night in the stylish Planet Bar which spills out onto the garden terrace. |
